What is a merchant account?

Merchant account enables businesses to accept credit cards as payment.


How do I get my money?

Money is deposited in merchants checking account within 48-hours of the batch settlement.


What does "AVS" mean?

Address Verification System By using this service merchants will save a lot on monthly fees as it helps secure the transaction. POS terminal will ask for the address number and zip code in most cases. This service is only used when the card cannot be swiped.


What does "ACH" mean?

Automatic Check Handling or Automatic Clearinghouse.


What does "CVV2" mean?

Card Verification Value. This is a security feature which let merchants know what the last three or four digits are in the back of each credit card. This insures that the card holder actually has the credit card in their hand. CVV2 also help merchants save money by adding this service.


What does "MOTO" mean?

Mail-order and telephone orders. This means your business accepts a majority of credit card sales by mail or telephone.


What does "POS" mean?

Point-Of-Sale


What is a qualified, mid-qualified, and a non-qualified transaction?

A. A qualified transaction means the credit card was swiped through the Point-Of-Sale machine.

B. A mid-qualified transaction means the credit card had to be manually typed in with "AVS" and/ or using a "CVV2 code". This transaction occurs either by taking orders online, by phone and/ or if the credit card strip is not readable.

C. A Non-qualified transaction means it is either a corperate credit card or the credit card sales was forced without using "AVS" or a "CVV2 code".

    What is a chargeback?

    A chargeback only occurs if the merchants customer has a reasonable dispute on poor results on an item or service purchased within 90-days sometimes as long as 180-days. Not all disputes are reasonable so we work hard to prevent this process from happening to our merchant clients.



    How to prevent chargebacks?

    Try to make sure each customer signs the credit card receipt or make sure that your company is set-up with "AVS" or "CVV2" to prevent fraud. Company policy's also help prevent chargebacks, for example no returns are acceptable beyond "such an such date". If you are a high risk for chargebacks have an attorney look over your company policy this could substanially reduce any if not all chargebacks from happening to your business.



    Will I be able to accept all types of credit cards with UBCNorth?

    Your business will have the ability to accept all major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, JCB, fleet, and other government cards. You'll also have the ability to accept debit cards, atm cards, EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer), and checks.

    How long does it take to get set-up?

    This depends on the type of business, but most merchants are approved instantly and if you ordered pos equipment or software it might be up to 48-hours before you are up and processing with United Bank Card.



    How much information will United Bank Card need from a merchant to get started?

    1. Complete Application


    2. Copy of drivers license or state id of applicant.


    3. Copy of business license, Retail, and/ or Tax Certificate


    4. If you're switching from another processor send us at leasttwo or three of your most recent merchant statements.


    5. If you are a store that accepts food stamps (EBT) we'll need a copy of your certificate with the FNS number otherwise referred to as your account number.


    6. If you conduct most of your business online or key-enter 50% or more of your sales we'll need additional marketing material such as a flyer, business card, advertisement, and/ or a phone listing.
